How to Use the Gland Calculator

O-ring seal configurations are categorized as either axial or radial. Radial seals have squeeze applied to the inside and outside diameters and typically consist of a piston or a rod. Axial seals have squeeze applied to the top and bottom of the O-ring cross-section and the applications are defined as having internal or external pressure. Some standard sizes are not recommended for dynamic applications due to the possibility of spiral failure occurring in the larger diameter sizes of the smaller cross-section o-rings.
